About

Janet joined the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) in 2015 as Director of the UK
Government’s preeminent real-world research service supporting retrospective and
prospective public health and clinical studies. Previously Janet spent 6 years as Head of
Population Health and Health Informatics at the Medical Research Council (MRC). During
her time at the MRC, Janet was responsible for initiating and delivering large multi-
stakeholder strategic funding initiatives in ageing, population health sciences and health
informatics research.

Prior to the MRC, Janet was the Deputy Chief Executive UK Clinical Research Collaboration
(UKCRC), a body bringing together key organisations to re-engineer the UK clinical research
environment comprising research funders, UK health departments, the NHS, industry,
regulators and patients. She previously worked in science strategy at the National Cancer
Research Institute, a partnership organisation of cancer research funders. Janet’s scientific
background is in molecular biology, holding positions at Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the
Imperial Cancer Research Fund laboratories (now Cancer Research UK), having gained her
PhD in Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Australia.
